Our eight courses draw on research in developmental, cognitive, educational and social psychology. The aim is to help young footballers understand how they think, feel, learn, relate and make choices—not tell them what to think.
These are educational foundations, not proof that PWIM Academy itself improves performance, wellbeing or life outcomes. Lesson-level evidence classifications and research references require source-by-source review. This page is an open, non-sensitive preview—not a restricted facilitator portal or clinical resource.
COURSE 01 · SCIENTIFIC RATIONALE
Metacognition, appraisal and attention
Our first explanation of a situation may not be the only one. Notice what you think and feel, then explore your options.
Foundational reading: Gross (2015); Schraw & Dennison (1994). These are initial scholarly anchors, not a complete literature review or direct evidence of this course's effectiveness.
Teaching boundary: Pausing is a choice, not a demand to suppress emotion or tolerate unfairness.
Scientific concepts are provisional mappings. Each PWIM lesson activity and its outcomes are classified E4 pending evaluation. Underlying constructs and teaching approaches require separate E1–E3 source-level assessment.

These are internal governance labels, not formal systematic-review certainty ratings. A single lesson may combine a well-established construct, an indirectly supported teaching method and a new PWIM activity.
A substantial research literature supports the construct, not this particular PWIM exercise.
Research supports a general strategy or mechanism, with context-dependent results.
Application to this learner group or delivery format requires caution.
A proposed PWIM activity or outcome not yet independently validated.
Do not present an unsupported claim as established science.
Students may consider alternative perspectives without being pressured to agree with an adult's preferred answer. Personal reflection and disclosure must remain proportionate and optional. These courses are developmental education, not diagnosis, therapy or an assessment of personality. Safeguarding concerns require established club procedures and qualified support.
Verify citations and current reviews; assess developmental suitability and accessibility; establish lesson-level learning objectives and measures; conduct safeguarding review; evaluate feasibility and student learning before making outcome claims.
Review status: preliminary internal draft · No independent scientific endorsement claimed.
