PWIM ACADEMY · COURSE 01 · LESSON 01.06

Choosing Your Next Action

Estimated time: 10–15 minutes · No login or personal disclosure required

Bring the course together: observe, interpret carefully, notice your reaction and choose a response consistent with your priorities.

Learning goal

Explore a football scenario, examine different possible responses and identify one practical way to apply the lesson's central idea.

Evidence-informed educational activities drawing on self-regulation, cognitive appraisal and reflective learning. This PWIM lesson has not been independently evaluated. Scientific foundations →

1 · Opening scenario

You are substituted after making an error. You feel disappointed, think the decision is unfair and want to leave the technical area immediately.

Which approach considers both your reaction and the wider situation?

2 · Understand

A useful decision is not always the easiest or quietest response. It considers the facts, your feelings, other perspectives, likely consequences and your values.

  1. What happened, and what am I assuming?
  2. What am I feeling, and what matters in this moment?
  3. What options do I have, and which next step fits my priorities?

People may respond differently to the same event. Context, relationships and safety matter.

3 · Practise

A teammate apologises after a misunderstanding. Which response leaves room for choice and perspective?

4 · Reflect (optional)

Private practice only. Your response is not submitted or saved; avoid including identifying information about others.

5 · Apply

Try the three questions from this lesson after a routine football decision. You can reflect mentally; you do not need to write or share anything.

This page does not store or send your answer.

6 · Review

Key idea: You cannot choose every event or feeling, but you can sometimes influence your next response and ask for support when needed.

Question to take away: What kind of next action would reflect both your values and the reality of the situation?

Educational practice, not a personality or mental-health assessment. You can ask a trusted adult or appropriate support person for help when needed.
